We see the Jabiru Calypso as a go anywhere distance crunching aircraft which is very economical to run and with reliability proven in the 2 seater aircraft which has been flying now for 15 years. Low maintenance fibreglass construction means less time in the workshop and lower outgoings at permit renewal time. The engine is a purpose-built horizontally opposed air cooled four cylinder power unit with dual ignition systems. It is direct drive, fitted with a silencer and provides smooth quiet effortless power for minimal cost.
Why go for a Jab?
- Fibreglass construction hence no potential long term corrosion or stress cracking issues
- More mph for your ££ than any other microlight.
- World speed record holder for 3 axis microlights.
- Performance figures are for proven in customer aircraft rather than 'test' aircraft.
- Proven direct drive 85bhp Jabiru 2200 engine with realistically priced spares.
- More weight margin in the UL than other 'fast' microlights hence no risk of finding out you've built a group A aircraft!
- Quietest microlight available due to Jabiru direct drive engine and Fibreglass construction.
- Can fly without headphones!
Approval StatusThe Calypso (or UL) is already approved and flying in many countries throughout the world. Globally over 622 aircraft (kits and ready built) have been sold with over 120 examples flying in the UK.
Building a Jabiru CalypsoTypical build effort is between 450 and 550 man-hours. Aircraft have been built in as little as 3 months with 6 months being typical for a concerted involvement. Some builders enjoy the build experience and go on to build a second aircraft! Only simple tools are necessary, although we suggest a Dremel, a heavy-duty pop riveter, a digital weighing scales and carborundum jigsaw blade.
